When Is the Best Time to Visit 30A? A Season-by-Season Guide

Ask anyone who knows 30A when to go, and you'll get a different answer every time. Families swear by summer. Locals quietly guard October. Music lovers plan their whole winter around a festival weekend. The truth is there's no wrong season to come to Seacrest Beach. There's just the one that fits your kind of trip.

Here's our honest, season-by-season guide from the porch of The Big Sea.

Spring (March to May): the sweet spot

Spring is when 30A wakes up. The air warms into the 70s and low 80s, the dunes turn green, and the Gulf starts warming up too. March brings spring break crowds for a few weeks. By late April and May, school is back in session and the beaches settle into an easy, uncrowded rhythm.

May is one of our favorite months of the year. The water is warm enough for a real swim, restaurants have open tables, and the evenings are perfect for dinner on the screened porch. Neighboring Alys Beach usually hosts its Digital Graffiti festival in May, when art is projected onto the town's white walls after dark. It's an easy bike ride from our front door.

Best for: couples, families with little ones not yet in school, and anyone who wants summer weather without summer crowds.

Summer (June to August): classic beach season

This is the 30A of everyone's childhood memories. Long, hot days. Warm, clear water. Kids on bikes, ice cream after dinner and fireworks on the Fourth of July. June through August is peak season, with July the busiest month of the year.

Summer is hot and humid, so plan your beach time for mornings and late afternoons, and save the midday hours for the pool, a nap or a long lunch. Book early. The best summer weeks fill up months ahead.

Best for: families with school-age kids and multigenerational trips. The Big Sea's bunk room was made for summer.

Fall (September to November): the locals' secret

If you ask us, fall is the best-kept secret on 30A. After Labor Day the crowds thin out, the humidity breaks and the Gulf stays warm from all that summer sun. October is spectacular: warm days, cool evenings, golden light and long stretches of empty beach.

Fall also brings some of the area's favorite traditions, from road races to food and wine festivals in the nearby beach towns. By November it's jacket weather in the evenings, and Thanksgiving week is a beautiful time to gather the whole family by the sea.

One thing to know: hurricane season officially runs June 1 through November 30, with the most activity from mid-August through October. Direct impacts are not common, but we always recommend travel insurance for fall trips and keeping an eye on the forecast.

Best for: couples, girls' trips, empty nesters and anyone who loves a quiet beach.

Winter (December to February): slow and peaceful

Winter on 30A is quiet, cozy and wonderfully affordable. The Gulf is too cool for most swimmers, but the beach is still beautiful for long walks, shell hunting and sunsets. Daytime temperatures usually range from the 50s to the 60s, with some surprisingly warm days mixed in.

Restaurants are easy to get into, the bike paths are wide open, and the holidays bring twinkling lights to Rosemary Beach and the other towns along 30A. In January, the 30A Songwriters Festival brings hundreds of performances to venues up and down the coast.

Best for: remote workers, snowbirds, holiday gatherings and music lovers.

So, when should you come?

  • Warmest water: June through September

  • Fewest crowds with great weather: late April, May and October

  • Classic family beach week: June and July

  • Best value: November through February, outside the holidays

Whatever season calls to you, The Big Sea is ready. Six beach cruisers are ready to ride, eight backpack beach chairs are waiting, and the sand is just a 4-minute walk away.
